Ccing the person who contributed the psycopg1 patch for ticket #5....

Any reason why people might be stuck with psycopg1 ?  we are considering dropping support for it.

Speaking of psycopg1, is there any good reason to continue support for that now that:

  a) psycopg2 has been out of beta for some time? Federico has been pushing for people to upgrade.
  b) SA requires Python 2.3, which has Std library datetime support

I was under the impression that psycopg2 is backward-compatible with older libpg protocols and can work fine with older version of PG. So other than compat with the mx DateTime what's the psycopg1 use case?

However, psycopg2 is _not_ a drop-in replacement for psycopg1; it's backwards-incompatible in significant ways.

But I've been in favor of dropping psycopg1 for a while now. :)  Maybe the 0.2 branch is the place to do this.
