I just want to add that my sAsync ("SQLAlchemy made Asynchronous")
package is coming along nicely, in case you want to give Twisted +
SQLAlchemy another chance. See the steadily growing usage doc at
http://foss.eepatents.com/sAsync/wiki/Usage for more info.

Personally, I find it hard to think about coding in any way *other* than
asynchronously now (with Twisted's Deferred mechanism being my vehicle
of choice), even when networking is not involved at all.
