I've upgraded to 1675 in the mean time and haven't noticed any failures/errors anywhere. Our site isn't under the load it was when it got dugg and I have two servers working now as well so it's hard to say for sure if that fixes the problem. I haven't ever reproduced it in a non production environment either.
