yeah, long story.  there is actually a ticket for this (#52), i.e. to  
be able to copy selectables...its needed (though not urgently) for  
some other scenarios too.   if you feel like giving that one a crack,  
that would be great (since youd have to learn/improve the select  
internals a lot more too :)  )
