youll notice from this:

> value) VALUES (?,?)' ['(datetime.date(2007, 6, 1),)', ('asdf',)]
both the date and the 'asdf' values are being sent in the form of one-
element tuples.
this is due to this:
> class Thing(object):
> def __init__(self, date, value):
> self.date = date,
> self.value = value,
which should be:
class Thing(object):
def __init__(self, date, value):
self.date = date
self.value = value
and all is well.
