I found something :
Using ipython, I could reprodure the error, by calling a
[engine.connect].execute(q, r), when q is a... unicode string. writing
...execute(q.encode('utf-8'), r) solved the problem.
I am looking at pyodbc internals to see if the problem comes from there.
