the "old" version of pymssql doesn't support unicode at all in any way,
and from my understanding can't even handle encoded utf-8 strings being
passed, so assuming that's still the case there's no option there.  the
"new" version of pymssql I have no idea what it does but we haven't had
time to attempt getting a driver working for it.

we do however support pyodbc with freetds on unix which is our current
primary platform for MSSQL.
