apparently because my build is some kind of "large" build I was on some special alternate server list, and that whole thing went down, and then it's down for a week and nobody over there gets emails or anything about it. I've had a lot of these outages (e.g. the kind that go on for weeks and they have no idea until I notice it and spend a day bugging them to look into it) with RTD so I just flipped docs.sqlalchemy.org to my own host last night. I'm just building manually with a shell script for now.

Last month they had a big change and migrated projects from subdomains
on .org to .io

any chance it's related?

there were a few of issues on their github regarding this.
