Yes, this should be possible to fix using the new "hooks" we have for
statements, so that they can be triggered at specific stages in the
initialization process.  I'm very sick right now, so I am not really
able to think straight, but maybe sometime this weekend I'll have a
chance to deal with this.

If anyone else wants to take a crack, just take a look at
elixir/__init__.py to see all of the different hooks that are available,
and see the versioned.py extension to see how you can implement a hook.
