Subject: oh...no little starkits for marvin

"According to Veronica Loell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
: I would like to have tclSqlite
:http://www.hwaci.com/sw/sqlite/tclsqlite.html included in Tclkit. It
:would be very interesting if anyone more knowledgable than me could
give
:me an idea if this is even feasible? But just think about it, you can
:commandline email in tclkit-sh, imagine what adding a powerful
:sql-engine at the commandline as well would do for it..."

"While the idea is _feasible_, it isn't likely. The developers of
Tclkit (like those developing Tcl itself) have indicated that they
recommend people create usable extension distributions for things like
this. So in the case of tclSqlite for instance, one might work within
the Sqlite community to create a starkit that contained sqlite compiled
for a variety of platforms, and organized so that all a tclkit user had
to do was download the starkit and source it in to get have the power of
sqlite - but the quickness and functionality of tclkit."

"To load every extension that anyone has ever requested (for every
platform that people have need of) into a single starkit would result in
a file too large to really be practical"

i spent hours configuring my application to work with starkit (it
relies heavily on sqlite) and the last thing i went to do is load and it
wouldnt work. then of course way to late i ran across this article. a
lesson I will soon forget I am sure.

the good news is I already have it done using freewrap.
I see the leader of sqlite mentioned as having made significant
contributions for freewrap
if am not mistaken. I wish I had spent the time learning more about
freewrap.
I will go back and check it out.

later
marvin
