was looking for more of a filemaker front end?
That is basically what Rekall is.
Rekall is a programmable, database independent, GUI client. With Rekall you can build full featured database centric applications, containing Forms, and Reports. Because the Python scripting engine is embedded in Rekall, you have access to all and every Python lib available so you application is only limit by your imagination. The Rekall developer edition also includes a script editor and debugger, Form and Report designers, a Visual Query builder, reusable components, macros and a macro editor, and wizards. There is also a Run Time edition. Rekall is released under the GPL so you can grab the source code and modify it to suit you needs. We also provide pre-compiled binary packages, but you have to buy a download subscription to access these. Presently, Rekall runs on Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Red Hat Linux V8.0 and V9.0, SuSE V9.0 and V9.1 and Mandrake V9.2 and V10.0. A Mac X OS is being tested. The next release of Rekall will include SQLite as the default database for desktop users. Also included with the standard distro are drivers for MySQL, PostgreSQL and xBase (to be replaced by SQLite)

It has a few sample applications, including one called "SQLIteManagerX" which may be sufficient for your needs.
