There are probably many pre-existing web sites where anyone can create an poll they want, so it might take less than 10 minutes to construct a poll and post a url. Then again, I could be delusional ;)

Dennis,

Then you should go ahead and give it a go. If it will only take 10 minutes you have little to lose. :-) I know that sounds like "then submit a patch..." but it is not intended that way.

I'm not adverse to polls in general, I was just pointing out that the results of the poll might well be disregarded. This may be may be disconcerting to someone who comes up with an idea that everyone except Richard likes.

Way back there was a landmark book in IT practice which postulated a "surgical team" structure for projects. There is only one surgeon but that person is ably supported by a phalanx of specialists. The model works very well as demonstrated by Sqlite, a patient alive and well because there is one surgeon who makes considered choices consistent with an overall vision and does not have to make popular decisions.

Democratic decisions tend to be bad ones. Benjamin Franklin described the problem well. In modern terms he pointed out that in a democracy the politician who promises free beer gets elected, not the one who promises peace, prosperity and good health.
