I am happy with Dreamhost. For $8 a month, I get more space and
bandwidth than I can use. I get shell access, and I can compile my own

I pay $5 per month for an IP address on a cable internet connection. That lets me host my own server and a bundle of virtual servers for various clubs and groups.
