For some reason you are assuming that your time is free and that you have no other things to do with it (opportunity cost). That is how you should be weighing all of this. And still refusing to go anywhere Linux where there is an excellent tool for exactly this problem that doesn't cost money, but will cost come time makes no sense at all. I run all my releases through valgrind while running a test suite with 99.6% code coverage because it is a far better way of catching problems than having crashes and trying to do a post-mortem debug and figure out things with time running backwards.
