That is, If I explicitly pointed out the size of the column 150, still can not 
write to the text of any reasonable length?

For example:

Table t1
cid      name            type               notnull      dflt_value      pk   
------- -------------- ----------------- ----------- -------------- --- 
0        GLOBALID        INTEGER            1                            1    
1        ID              VARCHAR(30)        0                            0    
...
11       COMMENT         VARCHAR(150)       0                            0    

So it is possible: ?
UPDATE t1 SET comment = 'here the text of 160 characters long'
