I think I have found something.

I have an other table, where inserting encoded string works.
The only difference between these two tables is the field charset
definition.

Inserting encoded string to the table, where field charset is set to
UNICODE_FSS everything works OK
Inserting encoded string to the table, where field charset is set to  UTF-8
throws an Exception.

Any hints?
