They should not really clutter if they point to the same files as the
playlist are made from ? Then LMS will see that it is a duplicate
entries and the same file and thus not ass it to the dB again .

However if the files pointed to in the playlist are not in the music
directory */mnt/music/beets* they will be added .

So some playlists pionts to */mnt/random* . thats it . Files in playlist
outside the defined music directory will be added .

But for LMS to be able to use the playlist ,the files must be added to
the database ? A catch 22 if its not in the dB LMS would not know about
it and the file has album and artist info .....

Workarounds .
However i think in the latests LMS you can browse folders outside of LMS
without adding them to the dB (there is asetting somewhere and even drag
and drop them in the web-UI (latest 7.9 )

You can always advocate for someone to develop a plugin or a setting for
hiding files from any view but playlist if they are outside the defined
library (but they must still be in the dB) .. I don’t know how easy or
hard that would be to code .
Afiak there is no straightforward setting for it .
