Wtf will resetting the router do? It's clearly a USB not ready issue. That said I agree that W10 with a USB drive is not a sensible approach. You will get issues with Windows power management, possibly Anti-Virus software and general hardware disconnects that seem to affect desktop OS more than servers. Why? Who knows.
I am not a fan of USB storage for this sort of thing at all. IMHO a local disk or network drive (wired) is infinitely better.
