Is it ok to install the latest LMS 7.9 over LMS 7.7.6 without uninstalling first? This is on a laptop.
Yes. And you've got a backup anyway, don't you? Just in case ;-).
Second, I know I'll have to upgrade the players firmware when I first connect a player to LMS 7.9, but will I be nagged to downgrade the firmware when I reconnect the player to mysqueezebox.com?
No. There's no 7.9 firmware available. Therefore there won't even be an update. There might be one for Touch. But it wouldn't trigger a downgrade when connecting back to mysb.com.
