After running the server over Christmas I came to the conclusion that it's still not working infallably for me. So I went back to a 32 bit version of Debian Wheezy with LMS 7.8.1 and for the past few weeks it hasn't given me any problems whatsoever. My conclusion is that something is obviously not quite right somewhere, but at this point I don't know the source of the problems. If you are struggling with 64-bit Debian then at least you'll know it's not just you!
