If you use 7.9 or 7.8.1 the update is daily because it is a beta aka
development version . The code gets changed several times over the week
and there is a semi automatic system that builds new versions from the
code base .

But turn of notifications if you want , but do upgrade now and then if
you are using a test version .

There is also historical reasons . Logitech abandoned the product and
thus the beta , bug maintained version and stable version cycle is
slightly of kilter . There is no formal testing or anything anymore. So
we been stuck into

7.8.0 and 7.8.1 and 7.9.0 for a while where 7.9.0 should be the bleeding
edge version with all the development going on .
But time goes by and 7.9.0 is actually the only version that works in
some OS and it also have some essential fixes and new features .

I could imagine a "community release" of 7.9.0 and then do the bug fixes
and further development in 7.9.1

That's happens when mherger decides that it's time :)

But it is work there are some OS that keep repositories of applications
and when you release these OS gets an oficial upgrade for everyone and
then a wider group of people gets it and the there will be a surge of
bug reports and questions .

Logitech themself supports 7.5 or 7.6 these are getting very old now .
