I'd advise you to have a look at the piCorePlayer threads in the
Unix/Linux forum here. Also the 'piCorePlayer web page'
(https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home).

I power my Raspberry Pi via a USB cable connected to the QNAP. The Pi
has a cable connection to the router. So all I needed was a cheap case
to house the Pi and the various cables, which I had lying around.

If you have some Linux experience, it'll help. Check out how to connect
to the Pi via a terminal. I use the Terminal app on my Mac, but there
are plenty other options for Windows etc.
