Thank You for a prompt and complete answer to my question. It seems obvious to me now but I have an excuse, lol. I had several albums for the artists that were in question. Only one, sometimes two albums would have the "ARTISTSORT" tag. So when I looked into the files I would not see the sort tag unless I looked at certain albums. BTW, its also necessary to clear library and rescan everything, then apply the results to complete the clean up but this was intuitive and obvious to me.
