Hi there
Not sure what he wants to do

It's 100% possible though to run the applications on a TV without having
DNLA enabled on the server -- that of course depends on the TV's
software.

Personally I like the phone idea since in the more modern phones the DAC
(digital to Analog converter)is quite good so you can feed a decent
signal into a "proper piece of kit" and at least the Samsung phones
handle FLAC as well from your music libraries.

Most of the radios streams these days are at a max of 320 kb/s AAC at
best so even a cheapish DAC should handle this stuff without any
problem.

I've had a phone running on battery connected to a decent set of
speakers (Mission Studio reference) for quite a few hours without having
to recharge the battery --you could always leave your phone attached to
its charger while streaming or even use an older phone purely as a
squeezebox controller !!!!

cheers
