I have experienced many of these same issues over the years and I believe there were two primary reasons. First, if the router malfunctions then you will see similar behavior to what you have described. Next time the LMS drops off check your wifi and network with another connected device to make sure it is not the router losing connection.
Second, I believe that Windows may be at fault for a lot of these disconnects. I do not have any expertise in computer networks or personal computing just my own experience. I have run LMS on a Windows machine since 2007 when I got my first SB3. When I ran it on Vista I had a few of these experiences but overall everything was pretty stable. When I upgraded to Windows 7 I started seeing these similar issues much more frequently, especially whenever security patches and other automatic windows "maintenance" was necessary. I reached the point where I quit using my Core2Duo desktop and started using an Atom powered "nettop" as my server also running Windows 7 as I thought my older machine may be at fault. This machine was completely dedicated to running LMS (nothing else) but even still it wasn't long before I once again began experiencing these same kinds of dropoffs. I then upgraded my desktop to an I5 based machine running Windows 10 and would see these dropoffs basically at least once every 2 weeks. Frequent rebooting of the LMS would be required to keep everything up and running even though I would make absolutely no changes to my network, firewall permissions or anything else. Finally, I have recently started running Max2play on a Raspberry Pi 2 as a test. I am happy to report that for the last three weeks since I started I have not seen my LMS drop off once in that time. I am also still running LMS on my Windows 10 machine and have seen it drop off a couple of times during this test. I believe that the simplicity of this little machine will be much more stable in the long run rather than dealing with the complexity and bloat of Windows. I realize it is early yet and my report is completely anecdotal but I am much happier now that I have started using the Raspberry for my server. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106447 _______________________________________________ Squeezecenter mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
