I personally have no clue why VA tagged Album Artist causes the spamming, only that removing the single one that I had eliminated it. I assume now that a full rescan is required to eliminate all the other VA references in the various tables - I would have thought, and did think, that the simple rescan was sufficient, but it wasn't. Nor why you don't see them.
