As all signs suggest network problems I wrote a poweshell-script that pings all my squeezeboxes from the machine running LMS and logging all lost packets with a timestamp. As all my squeezeboxes are on wifi there will probably some lost packages, I hope to see what log entries corelate to those lost packets. Apart from that, even if a sequeezebox loses connection to the server for a couple of miliseconds - why is the server dying on that disconnection? Michael, could you instruct me on what exactly to log in LMS to nail down that issue?
