I am never bothered by scans. In the Control Panel go to Advanced Settings. When the screen opens up click on the Advanced Button. Then Re-scan Music Library and set it to do the type of scan you want when you know you will not be listening. I run a look for new and changed media files scan daily at 2 AM while sleeping. No problem. If you add new music you want to listen to right away a look for new and changed media files scan only takes a few minutes.
I am using 7.9.0. w 37k files.
