Will the LMS 7.9 show new versions available on the web page or do I
need to keep an eye out?
As 7.9.0 is now the stable released version, you'll only get notified,
once 7.9.1 or whatever next has been released as the next stable version.

If you want to hop on the nightly train, then you can already manually
install 7.9.1 which will give you an update whenever there's a new build
available.
The biggest change in 7.9.1 so far might be the addition of new faad
binaries for most platforms (thanks ralphy!)
