Well the only thing I know how to do to interact with it via command
line is:

to get it started, but that runs silently and doesn't produce any
visible output.
The good news is for now, inexplicably the system seems to be up and
running; I've run the scanner successfully in an attempt to get up and
running again and while I still get freaky things in my log like this:
