Maybe update to the latest 7.9.1 beta? I do use LMS and iTunes with Home Sharing in the same Mac so it can work. That said: I dont use iTunes integration in LMS because I dont have any iTunes playlists and LMS can scan an iTunes library simply by adding the music folder path (and my iTunes library is a bit disorganized, iTunes sucks at removing data) so unless you have iTunes playlists this could be a way for you, too.
