I have recently encountered the same problem. LMS is on my QNAP TS-219PII AND I'm using version 7.7.2 (qpkg)Very grateful for any help on removing the password requirement.
First of all stop forwarding your port 9001 to the internet.Then shut down LMS, remove the authenticate value from the server.prefs file, restart.
