Finally got to the bottom of this.
Finding that MP3 gapless playback was lost I discovered that the Touch's "Audio Startup Time" in LMS > Player > Audio settings delays every track & not just the first of a playlist as I would expect. This had apparently been encountered before by 'Apesbrain' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109252-I-inadvertently-broke-MP3-playback) who also found an issue with 48KHz files. So just going back & retesting, altering this setting does indeed kill 48KHz files. No idea why that should be or whether it can be fixed?
