I spoke a bit too soon. On one of the albums, only 3 of 7 tracks was being scanned. Relocating (again) didn't help, but converting the whole album to ALAC worked. Bottom line: I don't know the reason(s) for these issues, but I can finally listen to them using LMS EXCEPT now I'm getting buffering issues with the ALAC files. UGH.
