I think the issue is not "aac" stream but "hls" streams - as HLS can
transport AAC or MP3.  Doing some general searches(e.g. Rock, Jazz)  -
the Tune-in search without "formats=" returned mainly MP3 but at least
on WMA stream. 

Given that not many people have complained about this issue - I see no
point in spending effort fixing it especially as there is a workaround
(Radio/Search) which in fact is easier to use.  Besides "hls" the
formats tweak was initially implemented for AlienBBC and allows "rtsp"
format.  So the issue needs to be kept in mind in case another format is
added in the future.
