This likely to be a Samba issue where the Linux user that you write the files with from your PC / Backup is different to the user that LMS expects the files to be. You can either declare "force user" and "force group" commands in your smb.conf (but what this should be depends on your Linux setup and may have reverse issues where having written the files to the server you are then unable to edit them) or consider using something other than Windows file copy e.g. WinSCP to move your files to/from the server. In the latter case the files will get written with the user/group that you connected with - probably "root.root" but are easily changed via the WinSCP interface. Understanding how user.group ownership and permissions works is probably key to understanding Linux.
