Hi Michael - I am having a very similar issue with an older Mac Mini.
LMS 7.91 had been running perfectly since I first ran as soon as the
stable 7.91 was released, but yesterday for some strange reason it
stopped playing a .dsf file (on picoreplayer) and then would not play
any .dsf files at all (FLACS and ALACS are fine).
Trying to troubleshoot, I decided just to reload LMS.
I downloaded the .pkg from here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.1/

and installed it. After that LMS would not start. In the preference
pane It would indicate 'starting.' but then would change to 'server has
started'.
I found the thread with your hint that had the 4(?) line commands to
mkdir and then chown, but that didn't work either.
I would like to try the little script that you created, but it is no
longer available. I can supply more information here, I know it is a
bit sketchy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
