If I use the "off" button for the player in Squeezelite or iPeng the music stops but when I come back hours or days later and restart the player it appears that the stream was still running. IIRC the stream would re-start at the latest position once it got more behind than the buffer can take. So typically if you paused for more than a few seconds the behaviour should be the same as if you stopped it.
