If you are willing for have to do a few extra clicks when selecting tracks ... then you could set up a Library View for the "preview" ones.
Search / Advanced Search / Path ... then save as a Library View Then switch to that Library View when you want to select from it ... and switch back to default (All) afterwards. A further refinement could be to set up a Group device - e.g. "Listening Room" and assign that view to this fake player. Then when you want to listen to some stuff from that set you would simply put your local player into that group and then queue the music to that group and then play it. A benefit of this approach is that you could add all of your new tracks to that group player and then pause/resume it whenever you want.
