If you want to run squeezelite only alsa, then I would suggest a clean
install of the latest 

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

download and use the rpi imager to make the burn

do the updates and use the package manager to download squeezelite

Long winded but beats faffing around.

This has always worked (for me, anyway) if you do this first and check
that all is OK , then add in stuff that you need afterwards.
