Here's an oddity that I've been worrying at over the last couple of days
- not sure how / whether precisely related to this thread so far, but it
involves accented letters....

I had a whole folder of mp3 off-air recordings of the John Le Carré
oeuvre, 12 sub-folders in all. But no matter what I did, the main
folder <LE CARRE> showed up as containing only one book folder, named
<Delicate Balance - Le Carré>, which played fine; but all the others -
all named something like <Tinker Tailor - Le Carré> etc - were missing
in LMS. I could go direct to the folders on my PC and play them on,
say, Winamp - so no problems with the mp3s themselves.

Seeing this thread, I just wondered if the accented é in the folder
titles was causing some sort of issue - but, then, the <Delicate
Balance> stuff played fine. Anyway, I tried deleting the é in <Tinker
Tailor - Le Carré> and replacing it thusly <Tinker Tailor - Le Carre>.
Ah-ha - the folder now shows up in LMS and plays fine! So, an easy
solution.

BUT, here's an oddity that someone else will probably immediately
identify. When I - in Windows File Explorer - hightlighted <Tinker
Tailor - Le Carré>, jumped to the end and backspaced the é, it didn't
vanish as I expected, but simply changed to a plain e. No idea how I
ever typed the é it in the first place - but it would have been within
mp3tag. Strangely, the one folder that was showing up, <Delicate
Balance - Le Carré> must have had that é encoded differently, as the
backspace deleted the é rather than altering it. So, two different
encoding of the é, one of which LMS was fine with, and one of which
rendered the folder invisible on a scan. Anyway, I replaced them all
with a plain e to totally avoid the issue.

I dare say that I will have this problem elsewhere in the entire Music
Folder, which I have just not yet noticed. Only thing I can say if
that, over the years, I have played all those Le Carré books many times
- and never before noticed this problem. However, this is a wholly new
installation of LMS and a new physical SDD with the Music Folder on it -
so maybe something odd has happened in the transfer process.

Sorry for the length of the "issue", but it had me baffled for a few
days.....
