Just tried to reinstall the LMS 8.0.0 and it seemed like it was working
until I rebooted the NAS. So I uninstalled LMS 7.7, installed 8.0.0 and
successfully connected to LMS web interface but all the images were
broken.

Ok, here's what I've found. The change which I could imagine could potentially cause this crash is an update to the Audio::Scan library from 6 years ago... You could try to use the version from 7.7. But that would involve quite some tinkering... Would you be able and willing to replace a bunch of files as the root user on your NAS? (and you'd have to do this after every update!)

I do understand that you don't want to throw away an otherwise perfectly working device. But that's not the point of using a Raspberry Pi to run LMS. It's actually the exact setup I have in my office: I gave up running LMS on my ReadyNAS Duo v2. But that same old NAS is still serving the music files, handling TimeMachine etc. Running LMS on the Pi has the advantage that you'll be running it on a device which is actively supported (because I use it ;-)), and might actually improve performance overall as a side effect, allowing you to take advantage of plugins and features which might not have run on the NAS with its limited resources.
