Well they maintain that it offers a better connection. 

I know that all the commercial X-ray equipment that I used to work with
used locking dins, so does a lot of electrical stuff that requires a
robust connection.

I used to love my Armstrong receiver, it was my first proper hi-fi
(after the Dansette) and a pair of Kef Concerto. :)

I asked the salesman for a plug for the Armstrong, he made me pay;
"yer've 'add yer discount, sonny!"

It was a simple life!!:p
