I must admit I run my Transporter at 100% volume, just on the principal that an extra digital volume control certainly won't make the sound better. However, don't forget there is a jumper in the transporter to allow you to step down the output voltage. Otherwise, I found the max volume I could turn my pre-amp up to was only about 2/10, so fine adjustments in volume were tricky. Now, I don't know if that counts as messing with the output, but it feels better than an extra volume control in the chain somehow.
