BINGO!

I have systematically taken all files in subfolders of an album and
uniquely renamed them and moved them so that they are in a single folder
named with the album name. For example:

Album: Wagner - RotN - Bayreuth - 1970 - Stein
First two tracks (of 149 <-- lots of renaming!!):
"Wagner - RotN - 01 - Rheingold - 01. Vorpsiel.flac"
"Wagner - RotN - 01 - Rheingold - 02. Weia! Waga! Woge, du Welle.flac"

On a Library rescan, these 149 tracks now show as a single Album item
and not as previously, as a set of 12 items all with the same album
name, the 149 tracks in them.

What this actually is: a zip of Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungen,
which comprises 12 CDs. The ripping software rips each CD to a folder,
with tracks in it. The LMS scanning software treats each folder as an
individual album item even though the Album of each track is the same
across all 12 CDs.

I've done the same with another five albums (one of another Ring
recording and several other Wagner operas) and on recan all now show as
I expect them -- as a single Album.

So, a bit of renaming work to get things as I want, but I understand now
how the LMS scanning works now and I know what to do.
