I'm running a recent 8.2 nightly (May 4th) to get the new random-play options.
I'm pretty sure it's since the update that when I control either of my two SB3s with its supplied remote control, I have to press the Play button once, wait a few seconds, then press Play again, in order for something selected to indeed play. If I control an SB3 with, say, iPeng, then tapping Play there works as expected, first time.
