Thank you, that got me on the right track, the problem is fixed. What I
did:

1) enable "info-level" logging for "scan.auto" and for "scan.import" (
Settings -> Advanced -> Logging )
2) start a "Rescan Media library" (Clear library and Rescan
everything).
3) As soon, as in Info the information about termination showed up, I
looked at the last line of the info log, that showed the offending file
4) I looked at the file. And in all of the cases, one or more files of
that album had "additional APE tags" of some sorts
5) I opened MP3Tag, it also has a column "Tag", where it shows the
tag-types used in the file
6) For the files having "APE" tags in them ( I then opened the whole
album with the offending APE tags in them ), I selected the line with
the offending track, pressed Ctrl-X (cut tags) and Ctrl-V (paste tags),
that way, only the "useful" tags where pasted back in
7) I did an incremental search (Look for new and changed media files)
and got rid of all the superfluous APE tags.

In future, I'll have a close look at that "tag" column in MP3Tag when
adding stuff.

Thank you!
