I think I cracked it. This behaviour seems to be triggered by the PowerSafe plugin. I have set my players to 15min but of course my intention was not to switch off while playing and I don't really think this is the intention of the plugin either. So I disabled it,...problem gone.
Maybe sth for the author of the plugin to look into, if he can be bothered.
