I've not seen any recent LMS feature that needs a latest perl.  But
perhaps you should list how old your older versions are, and the
architectures.

AFAIK, as long as you have up to date SSL and SSL perl libraries, that
is the most needed.  Unless of course you are not streaming anything
from the internet, then it probably doesn't matter either.
