I don't have a NAS, and have no experience with them, but I do remember reading something about LMS on a Synology NAS not being supported past a certain version. You can do a forum search....I'll look around too... @RobbH had a good idea regarding moving LMS to your rpi, you could then still use your NAS as a file serve. My comment doesn't address what you are seeing, but perhaps you could even just temporarily install LMS on the rpi, or a PC/MAC and see if it behaves the same way. I'm real big on testing to eliminate variables.
